Water Activated Wallpaper / Water Based Wallpaper
Water activated is the easiest to install and remove. Installation starts with a wet cloth or towel and removal requires a high-pressure steamer, time, and patience. The cost to remove water activated wallpaper will depend on the age of the wallpaper itself, as older wallpaper will take longer for the steam to fully penetrate and break the glue bonded to the surface.
Once most of the wallpaper is removed, the extra adhesive must be manually removed using a special adhesive remover to ensure the paint or wallpaper being re-installed bonds correctly.
Vinyl Wallpaper / Peel & Stick Wallpaper
Vinyl wallpaper otherwise known as peel & stick wallpaper is easy to install and difficult and consuming to remove. Peel and stick wallpaper is not water based, meaning it has a strong glue / adhesive that must be stripped manually using special techniques to forcibly remove it from the wall. Once this is done the adhesive must be broken down using a special chemical compound to prevent its residue being left on the surface. Vinyl or Peel & Stick wallpaper has been around since the 70’s and it is the costliest wallpaper to remove.
Wall Surfaces
When removing wallpaper from a surface, it’s not just the wallpaper that makes the removal process complex. It’s what the wall has been coated in prior to removal, this may be an enamel, acrylic or just plain plaster. Each of these surfaces requires specialist techniques to remove to prevent damaging the existing coating.
